About Me

I am 32 and have lived in Ohio my whole life, living now in Mount Vernon. I've been married to my wonderful husband, Shawn, for eight years.  We have an amazingly cute 6-year-old son, James.

We are hoping to be blessed with another child soon. I also have family scattered all over the east coast and Midwest. The in-laws live in Florida, and we love to visit them. My dad, stepmum, and brother and sister live in the D.C. area in Virginia, and we love to visit them as well. My sister, niece, and nephew live on the Tennessee/Kentucky border, but we don't get to see them as often as I'd like. The rest of my side live in good old Springfield, OH. We try to travel down there as often as possible, because my mom has had an extended battle with illness. She was diagnosed in January of 2011 with pneumonia that was so severe she was put in a medically-induced coma. She had to have a tracheotomy to breathe and was given an antibiotic so strong that she had some kidney damage and some dialysis. She eventually beat the pneumonia and came out of the coma, but she wasn't able to use her arms and legs from so much inactivity and muscle loss. She went into intense occupational and physical therapy after that. She was allowed to go home in September or October of 2011, but she is still in recovery, receiving physical and occupational therapy at home three times a week. She has regained most of the use of her hands and arms but not all, and she can walk for short periods of time with the help of a walker. Obviously, we try to get down to see her as often as we can to help her and to help bring joy to her days (not to say that she is miserable but she loves having her family close by). She amazes me with her resilience and joy for life after she's been through so much. We also try to see my grandmother (who lives close to my mom) often as she just lost my grandpa in May of 2011 and now lives alone. She adores my son, who calls her Mimi, and hates it when we can't come down to visit.

I graduated in 2010 from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with degrees in English and Language Arts Education. The plan was to teach high school level English and work on my writing in my free time, but I haven't gotten a full-time teaching job yet. So as of right now, I'm substitute teaching in two school districts and working a part-time job for minimum wage. Needless to say, that leaves a little less time for writing, but I'm trying to persevere. Luckily my husband has a great job with Rolls-Royce Energy.

I am extremely passionate about writing. I believe it is what I am meant to do, as cheesy as that sounds. Sometimes I think I might have a muse because I get the most amazing ideas for stories all the time, and they don't necessarily have anything to do with my own life - hence the title of my blog. I am partial to novels, though I could see myself writing screenplays if I became more educated in their nuances. I am also partial to YA because I have such an extended background with adolescents. I love all fiction, but I tend to read more fantasy and science fiction. I am currently working on a series of YA fantasy novels; the first installment being titled Gayle (after the main character). I also have been researching for an idea I came up with in college in Music in the Western World class for a historical romance. In addition, I've always wanted to convert an old Playstation role playing game called Legends of Dragoon into a trilogy of screenplays, but that may have to wait. To pile on the work, I'm constantly getting new ideas for other stories as well. I can only hope that I will be able to get into a pattern of writing that I can stick with that will allow me to write all of my story ideas.

I am a voracious reader and I love movies, so I have decided to include book and movie reviews on my blog as well. I will only review those works that I am very passionate about, and I will not take the usual critic's stance (even though I have a lot of experience with literary criticism from my education). I intend to review works strictly from a consumer's point of view and only as a recommendation to my friends and fellow readers (that is not to say that I will always write kindly about the subjects). Hopefully, those who read them will appreciate my recommendations for what they are - my honest opinions, good or ill, about a work from a reader/viewer's point of view.
